7 Oils Every Woman Needs to Grow Healthy Hair (and How to Use Them)

Your hair needs oil to grow. Period.

Some people think that their hair doesn’t need oil because it’s too fine or it’s too thin – and this is true. But what’s also true is that your hair can’t grow without oil, so there is always some type of oil that your hair needs so that it can thrive in a healthy state.

Here are 7 oils every woman needs in their life to grow healthy hair:

1. The natural oils from your scalp

Remember how I said earlier that your hair might be too fine or thin, so you think you don’t need extra oils?  Well this may be true, but that also means that you need to make sure that your natural oils are up to snuff in order to foster a healthy scalp that grows healthy hair.

This means making sure that you’re not washing your hair too much. If you’re washing too much, you’re drying your scalp out and your hair will suffer as a result.

If you have fine hair, I recommend any of the Garnier Whole Blends collections to keep your hair clean and light.

2. Jamaican Black Castor Oil

This is one of the heavier oils of the bunch (and trust me, it’s heavy…), but believe me when I tell you it makes your hair grow like crazy!  It also helps with thickness, so if you’ve got thin hair this one might be a great option for you.  JBCO has a high ricinoleic acid content and it’s got amazing anti-inflammatory properties (which is one of the main reasons for hair loss).

I have a few JBCO products that I love, but my absolute favorite is the Tropical Isle JBCO.

3. Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is super high in Vitamin E, and Vitamin E is amazing for growing hair quickly. True story: my mom once put Vitamin E capsules on a bald spot and the hair grew back within days… Don’t sleep on this oil, it’s the truth!

4. Coconut Oil

So way back when, I had a Youtube channel and I did a Coconut Oil Deep Conditioner routine that made my hair super soft, manageable, and helped it grow at a faster rate than I’d seen it grow in years.

Coconut oil is the holy grail for many, and I totally get why. It’s easy to apply, and your scalp and hair soak it up! This is one of the few oils that I’ve seen actually do wonders on both my scalp AND my hair strands.

5. Peppermint Essential Oil

This tingly essential oil not only smells amazing, but it literally gives your scalp a massage treatment when you apply it. The mint actually helps with getting the blood flow circulating in your scalp, but you don’t want to apply it straight from the bottle.

6. Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary essential oil is very similar to peppermint oil, because it gives you that same tingly feeling and draws blood to the scalp. Anytime a product makes your scalp tingle, it’s activating your hair follicles and encouraging growth.

7. Apricot Kernel Oil

This oil contains omega 9 fatty acids (amazing for maintaining a healthy scalp) and vitamin E. The best thing about this oil is that it’s super lightweight, so you don’t have to worry about having oil build up or heavy hair.
